Listing instructions

You may qualify for a listing in Baughan's NorthEast Guide directory if yours is a retail or service establishment which is physically in and/or serving visitors to our region. You need to follow this process to register, whether you are submitting a new listing or requesting a revision to an existing presence. (If just sending us a message, however, please use the above "send a note" link.)

Step 1. Check if your Website is already in our directory. Use the state links, to the right, then explore your county and subject. Look under similar categories, as well -- for instance, an item not found under "Attractions -- Sports" might be found under "Attractions -- Outdoor." If your Website was present in an earlier edition but is now missing, this is probably because the link to your site, or your reciprocal link back to us, failed to operate during testing. Sorry for the inconvenience. Please re-submit. Thank you.

Step 2. Decide how you wish to be presented. Check how our Web site is organized, above, and our terms of use (by registering, you agree to them). We offer two listing options:

  • Detailed link -- Up to 200 characters (approx. 40 words) of description. Available to sites which meet the following quality requirements, and also provide a link back to Baughan's Northeast Guide. Normally, detailed link sites will be posted within 72 hours.

  • Simple link -- Up to 50 characters (approx. 10 words) of description. Available to sites which meet the following quality requirements, but without reciprocal links. Simple link submissions often take significantly longer to process, and will be reviewed on an as-time-is-available basis.

Step 3. Review our quality requirements. They constitute an actually simple checklist. However, violate them, and your submission will not be approved. Note that we have also provided some free Marketing tips to help make your listing work harder for you. Our standard requirements are:

Be applicable. Your Web site needs to fit into one of our four basic categories -- Attractions, Homes, Lodging, or Shopping -- and be oriented toward families coming to our region.

Be findable. Your operation must have a physical presence (a street mailing address, not just a post office box) in America's Northeast. Your listing will be posted only under the town displayed on your domain's primary physical location.

Be visitor-friendly. Your entry page must not "grab hold" of a visitor's browser -- i.e., it must allow someone to back out gracefully. If your site employs introductory (be they flash, slide-show or similar) -- or registration-required-to-enter -- pages, then we may establish our link to the first page with useful information beyond that point, if any. Also, please avoid entry/exit pop-ups, since we may disqualify sites/domains which employ automatic pop-up advertising, surveys, etc.

Be ready. If your site is still under construction, please complete it prior to submission.

Be reachable. Your Website must provide easy access to at least email communication.

Be unique. The Web site must be your own; this means that if you have your own domain such as <myname.com/> then that's fine. A site such as <myhost.com/~myname/> also qualifies, as does <myhost.com/myname/>.  However, a same-company subdirectory like <mycompany.com/myname/> does not qualify for a separate listing, but we would be willing to list the company itself.

Be accurate. The description in your listing must relate to your site -- its content, theme, or purpose, and be immediately evident. Claims must be supported -- especially words like "free."

Be yourself. Third-party submissions... including those from bulk submission companies... those involving email forwarding companies... those from off-shore sources... and submissions by those not in and/or serving any of the states we cover... will be declined. Your submission must come from the email address posted on your Web site, or it will be declined.

Be individual. Multiple Websites for the same company are not allowed. Exception: Agents, such as real estate agents -- who are independent contractors with their own Web sites -- will qualify; however, such sites must be seen to be unique, not apparent duplicates of each other.

Be long-term. We do not list temporary or "limited time only" offers, or individual items such as a single collectible for sale, or a single vacation cabin for rent, or a single new home development in fact, if you encounter one subverted to such a purpose, please tell us; thanks).

Submission requests are evaluated in what we consider to be a fair manner within the limits of our own abilities and goals. We reserve total discretion over a Web site's presence, without a guarantee of any kind. We review sites for applicability, and may limit or edit entries accordingly. Important: Know what may disqualify your listing.

Step 4. If your Web site meets these simple requirements, and you have better positioned your site by using our Marketing tips, then enter here to submit your listing.
